For a file to be scanned, it must reside in the "DB" subdirectory. If you
are scanning a file for the first time, the file must, therefore, be copied
to that directory and given a special name. All you have to do is answer a
few questions. You need to tell ReSearch where to find the new file, so that
it can be copied. You also have to tell ReSearch the name of the document con-
tained in the file. ReSearch will copy the file and create an index for it.
Then, you'll have to move the cursor to the first line of the document's first
numbered page.
-> To mark the beginning or end of a text block that you want to move ver-
batim to a file or to the active data base, press "M". When the block's
end is marked, press "C" to copy it. You'll be asked to enter a sub-
ject abbreviation (so that you'll be able to find the data quickly in
the future), and then you'll have to enter the name of the destination
file (if you're sending text to the data base, enter "DB"; "P" will
send it to the printer); Alt-F2 allows you to enter a summary instead
of sending verbatim text to the data base.
-> To find a word quickly, press "F"; to find the next occurence, press "N".
-> To find a page quickly, press "P"; then, to find the last page being read
when you were last reviewing the document, press "L".
-> ^O toggles blank line output on and off.
-> To set a file's name, beginning page, and beginning line, press ALT-S.
